Bio
As HOT’s Senior Communications Manager, Gihan is responsible for advancing HOT’s external communications objectives of raising awareness around HOT’s mission and impact in development and humanitarian action, amplifying HOT / OSM community voices and capacity building for local community project teams, in support of the mission of growing the global HOT community. With over 12 years of international communications experience in the development and humanitarian sectors, including the Red Cross, the UN and several smaller NGOs, Gihan has extensive experience developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns on diverse topics such as human rights, gender equality, human trafficking, modern slavery, migration, peace and security, and sustainable development. Gihan holds Masters degrees in International Politics from the University of Brussels and Applied Ethics from the University of Leuven, in Belgium.

UPDATE TO #MAP2020 DUE TO COVID-19 With the ongoing situation of the Covid-19 outbreak in big parts of the world, we are asking #map2020 participants to follow their local governments’ respective guidelines. If you can’t go out and capture imagery due to the current situation, you can still participate in #map2020 by updating and improving OpenStreetMap by using imagery that already exists on Mapillary. The imagery should still be used to improve navigation in your chosen area.
