Remote HOT Activation in the Philippines for Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan
The Humanitarian OpenSteetMap Team (HOT) has activated to provide geographic base data in areas affected by typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan in the Philippines. Currently we are supporting the active OpenStreetMap Philippines community and we have activated in conjunction with our partners at the Digital Humanitarian Network(DHN). For more information about what other DHN partners are doing please read their blog post about the activation. We are also working closely with United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the American Red Cross (ARC) to determine if they have mapping needs which we can help fulfill.

Since our preparation began two days before the typhoon's landfall we have mapped the following:
- Merged 1,240 place names from GNS data
- Mapped 29,845 buildings
- Traced 3,036 residential landuse areas
If you are a response organization and have specific mapping needs please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org Over 100 people have helped contribute to OpenStreetMap in the affected areas during this time. Thank you to all the volunteers to have helped so far. To make and update the detailed map that OpenStreetMap is known for it requires a community and dedicated mappers. For those that have not yet helped and wish to help contribute it is easy to get involved.
