Malaria Mapping YouthMappers Challenge

HOT is managing a mapping project for malaria eradication across seven countries in Southern Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America. This project is part of the Missing Maps initiative and is backed by DigitalGlobe, the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Gates Foundation. Our mission is to generate building data in OpenStreetMap for a total of over 500,000 square kilometers by April 2017. We are starting a YouthMappers competition for the project. Prizes will be given to the chapters that contribute the most quality data to this project.

Greetings youthmappers,

I am Russell Deffner of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT). Along with Geoffrey Kateregga, we are managing a mapping project for malaria eradication across seven countries in Southern Africa, Southeast Asia and Central America. This project is part of the Missing Maps initiative and is backed by DigitalGlobe, the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Gates Foundation. Our mission is to generate building data in OpenStreetMap for a total of over 500,000 square kilometers by April 2017. This is why we need your help.

We are starting a youthmappers competition for the project. Prizes will be given to the chapters that contribute the most quality data to this project, for the period of March 6 - April 2; April 3 - 30; and May 1 - June 4 (or when the campaign is finished). If your chapter is up to the challenge, please have one member of your chapter register your group here. Don’t forget to come up with and use a unique changeset hashtag, all your mappers will need to add this tag when saving their work to be counted for the prize. Make this unique to your group and this campaign (example: #YMGroupXMalaria) - use this when you save your edits (changeset comment), not the Tasking Manager notes.

Top mapping teams are eligible for equipment such as GPS devices, smartphones, and covering mapathon costs like food and internet; runners up will get some HOT Swag, such as t-shirts, notebooks, or mugs.

Mapping projects are found here, please map projects created by ‘russdeffner’.

Thank you for mapping to eliminate malaria!
