Imagery released for Cyclone Enawo to support mapping activities
High-resolution satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe is now open and available for the Cyclone Enawo response. One week ago, the powerful cyclone made landfall on the northern part of Madagascar. Flooding has had devastating effects and has displaced over 100,000 people. The HOT community is now using this imagery for response mapping.
Led by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), work over the last week has focused on mapping roads, and now with the new imagery buildings and other key infrastructure features can be mapped to support the response. The IFRC and the Malagasy Red Cross Society have been working to coordinate relief efforts and the mapping work is supporting logistics, operations planning, and providing situational awareness. Pre- and post-event imagery like that released from DigitalGlobe is critical to this initial response and helps to provide an up-to-date view of the situation.
