YouthMappers ‘Mapping to End Malaria’ Challenge: Round 1 Results

Our first round of the YouthMappers ‘Mapping to end Malaria’ Challenge has concluded.  Together, 141 students at 8 universities mapped over 50,000 buildings in Zambia and Zimbabwe. Thank you to all the chapters who participated!

The competitions winners are:

  1. UCC YouthMappers from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana: coming in first place, the UCC YouthMappers out-mapped the other competitors by a significant margin. They mapped an average of over 1000 buildings per student. Way to set the bar for round 2!

  2. GEOMATICA UdeA from the University of Antioquia, Colombia: second place goes to GEOMATICA UdeA, who also had the most participants with just under 50 mappers.

  3. ‘Maptime Morgantown’ at West Virginia University, USA: third place goes to team Maptime Morgantown, who edged out their competition by just 10 buildings per mapper.

Our congratulations and thanks go to these YouthMappers. By way of thanks for their contributions, first and second place will receive financial support from HOT, to put towards items they need to grow their mapping community, such as equipment and mapathon costs. Third place will receive some great HOT stash for their team.

The second round of the competition is now under way, but there is plenty of time for your YouthMappers chapter to join in, catch up, and be in with a chance to win more prizes!
