The future is here! Go and check out the next evolution of the HOT Tasking Manager.
What is the Tasking Manager?
The Tasking Manager, built by Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is designed to coordinate mapping in OpenStreetMap. Tasking manager enables anyone, anywhere in the world to contribute to humanitarian responses and development programs that improve people’s lives. It is the leading tool for coordinating volunteers and organizing groups on OpenStreetMap.
Our exciting new ‘teams’ enhancement enables mappers and validators alike to team up and collaborate on projects and improve lives, together.
Like before, mapping projects are connected to one organization or community. But now, organizations can manage their own space, administrators and teams to coordinate and collaborate on projects.
Groups of users (teams) can be assigned projects. Each of them can be given certain permissions like mapping, validation or editing - including project metadata. Organizations can now have one (or many) - ‘Mappers’, ‘Validators’ and ‘Managers’.
Let’s illustrate these new and flexible options with some examples:
-
A team of approved mappers can be selected for validation and quality assurance on a mapping project.
-
On special projects, it might be desirable to restrict mapping to a special group of people. This can be done by assigning a team the mapping permission on the project.
-
Oftentimes, several people manage a project together. For example, during a mapathon some of people might want to adjust the project description. A team can be used to give permission to a select group of people to edit and manage projects together.
These new features will allow organizations to create and manage permissions with more distinction than ever before. Project managers can determine and manage permissions independently - such as deciding on a group of validators - without their decisions affecting other teams and users on the platform.
