Data and Mapping Contractor / Eastern & Southern Africa
Walter Mayeku is a data and mapping expert at ESA-Hub where he supports data-driven initiatives and projects by leading project implementation cycles. His efforts have supported a strong development of community-driven open data initiatives and local government’s adoption of similar initiatives. Walter's work focuses on support in the implementation of the end-to-end workflows in the humanitarian data-driven world.
With a background in urban geography, and a strong experience in GIS and Remote Sensing, Walter has worked across the Eastern and Southern Africa region, collaborating with local communities, both government institutions and other humanitarian organizations through established collaborations and partnerships to improve the adoption of new Earth Observation technologies and open data initiatives.
Recently, Walter supported the implementation of the Climate Ready Cities’ project in collaboration with Nakuru City and the county government of Nakuru, Kenya. He exemplified the mission of the organization to help establish initiatives that increase city-level resilience. Building frameworks based on evidence-based policy recommendations in building sustainable urban mobility plan.
