When a disaster strikes, it’s time to map: Lessons on community mapping for humanitarian response and preparedness

Since HOT's inception, we have operated on the premise that most people have an “overwhelming impulse to help when people are suffering”, which is reflected in a community of more than 750K mappers around the world. But how are their contributions used once they reach first responders?

This World Humanitarian Day, we will dive deep into how community-led mapping is changing the way humanitarian aid and first responders navigate disaster response and preparedness.

With interventions from:

-Rebecca Firth, HOT's Executive Director

-Niken Fidiasty, Data and Information Management, Indonesian Red Cross Society (PMI)

-Simon Tembo, GIS and M&E Coordinator, Malawi Red Cross Society
