Open Mapping Hub - Asia Pacific
Established in early 2021, the Open Mapping Hub - Asia Pacific (AP Hub) is dedicated to advancing the open mapping movement across the Asia Pacific region.
Our goal is to drive the evolution and growth of locally-driven, sustainable open mapping ecosystems. By leveraging open mapping technology and innovation, we work to empower communities and deliver meaningful impact across the humanitarian and development sectors.
Current projects:
Partner: World Vision Bangladesh
In 2024, Dhaka Thrive was launched to address the need for open and reliable geospatial data for Dhaka’s informal settlements, laying the foundation for smarter, more inclusive urban planning. In this next phase, the project will focus on transforming insights into action—empowering local communities and decision-makers to drive meaningful, data-informed change.

Partner: Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Yayasan KEHATI), Yayasan Lestari Alam Kita (SALAKA)
Through the Map4Mangrove project, AP Hub aims to collaborate with KEHATI to bridge gaps in mangrove monitoring by integrating open mapping technology, tools, and data to support broader biodiversity and conservation efforts.
Partner: Myanmar’s OpenStreetMap Community (myOSM), funded by H2H Network
In March 2025, a destructive earthquake hit central Myanmar. In response, HOT through AP Hub partners with myOSM to launch a mapping initiative to fill data gaps in OpenStreetMap. The improved data will be essential in supporting recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Partner: World Vision Bangladesh, funded by NetHope
The Climate Resilience Fellowship empowers young leaders across Bangladesh to design and implement community-led projects–known as “capstone projects”–to address urgent climate issues.
AP Hub, in collaboration with the local OpenStreetMap (OSM) communities, co-created the Open Mapping Guru (OM Guru) project to catalyze a regional network of dedicated and experienced OSM contributors, champions, and mappers. This growing network of experts—also known as “Gurus”—are key players in driving a more localized, regional community building.
