Intermediate Trainings Begin

Last week, we started intermediate training for the six disaster prone provinces that we are piloting. Our intermediate material covers some gaps that we did not have time to cover in the beginning workshops, like how to offset imagery that is incorrectly georeferenced and/or conflict resolution. We covered general topics that focused on better OSM editing and validating: 01. Editing in Detail 1.5. Conflict Resolution02. Quality Assurance (and the Tasking Manager)03. Editing the Wiki 04. Creating XML and JOSM presets05. Private Data Store

Last week, we started intermediate training for the six disaster prone provinces that we are piloting. Our intermediate material covers some gaps that we did not have time to cover in the beginning workshops, like how to offset imagery that is incorrectly georeferenced and/or conflict resolution.

We covered general topics that focused on better OSM editing and validating:
01. Editing in Detail
1.5. Conflict Resolution
02. Quality Assurance (and the Tasking Manager)
03. Editing the Wiki
04. Creating XML and JOSM presets
05. Private Data Store

We look at shortcuts and ways to contribute to the OSM community, such as through wiki sites or the tasking manager. Understanding these elements are useful for developing better and more effective additions to OSM. Since these workshops are all computer based and quite sedentary, we try to make the sessions fun. We have incorporated some games to learn the difference between bad and good editing. Participants divide into two groups and must put screenshots of JOSM into either the bad editing or good editing piles. Bad edits include unlabeled or misspelled tags, incomplete ways, or duplicate objects.

We hope that by the end of these workshops, participants develop the skills and tools needed to correct and strengthen the quality of data in OSM.

Our team and participants in the Bandung training. We have a few participants that love editing group photos.

Our first workshop was conducted outside Bandung, in East Java and our second one was in Surabaya, Central Java. We will be conducting four more throughout the months of December and January.
